Emergine vs Otterly: which platform tracks the engines your buyers actually use?

The short answer

Choose Emergine if your brand sells into China, APAC or any market where DeepSeek, Doubao, Yuanbao, Qwen, Baidu ERNIE or Kimi shape what buyers believe about your category. Emergine tracks all six alongside ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and Gemini, in one dashboard, in one report, with Chinese and English prompts sitting side by side.

Choose Otterly if your buyers are exclusively in Western markets and Perplexity or Claude are the engines that matter most to you. Emergine does not currently track either.

Engine coverage is the decision

Every tool in this category reports mentions, sentiment and share of voice. Those reports only mean something if the platform is watching the engines your buyers open, and that is where these two products separate.

Otterly's engine list is ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot and Claude. Three of those seven, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Claude, are paid add-ons rather than plan inclusions. No Chinese engine appears anywhere on Otterly's site, help centre or product changelog.

Engine Otterly Emergine
ChatGPT All plans Tracked
Google AI Overviews All plans Tracked
Google AI Mode Paid add-on, $9 to $149/mo by tier Tracked
Gemini Paid add-on, $9 to $149/mo by tier Tracked
Perplexity All plans Not tracked
Claude Paid add-on, $29 to $439/mo by tier Not tracked
Microsoft Copilot All plans Coming soon
DeepSeek Not offered Tracked
Doubao Not offered Tracked
Yuanbao Not offered Tracked
Qwen Not offered Tracked
Baidu ERNIE Not offered Tracked
Kimi Not offered Tracked
Naver AI Not offered Coming soon

Ten engines live on Emergine against seven on Otterly. The six Chinese engines decide most cross-border purchases, and no Otterly plan, add-on or enterprise configuration reaches them. Tracking only US-based engines leaves your China and APAC visibility unmeasured.

What you get with Emergine

Ten engines, one dashboard, one number

Mention rate, top-3 mention rate, first-position rate, average rank, share of response, sentiment and a 0 to 100 Visibility Index, computed across every engine you track and every market you sell into. One report for the global picture instead of two tools and a spreadsheet reconciling them.

China tracked natively

DeepSeek, Doubao, Yuanbao, Qwen, Baidu ERNIE and Kimi are queried in Chinese, the way your buyers ask. An English prompt written for ChatGPT and pushed through translation returns an answer no Chinese buyer would ever see.

The competitors you did not name

Emergine reports every brand appearing beside yours in the answer, with mentions, rank, sentiment, share of response and co-occurrence on each. Automatic competitor suggestions get you started, then the answer set itself shows you who belongs on the list.

Prompt Discovery and Citation Intelligence

Prompt Discovery finds the questions, comparisons and buying journeys that actually surface your brand. Citation Intelligence shows which websites, publications and reviews each engine leans on when answering questions in your category, read one engine at a time.

Site Assessment, then Action Tasks

Emergine crawls your site the way an AI engine would and scores whether crawlers can reach and read you, how well your content answers tracked prompts, how winnable citations are in your category, and whether pages are structured to be quoted. Every finding quotes what was found on the page and states the change to make. Those findings become tasks your team can assign, work through and measure.

White-label reporting

Export to PDF or CSV with your own logo, title, colours, header and footer. Built for agencies presenting to clients and for teams presenting to a board.

Built by the team behind KAWO

Emergine comes from the team that built KAWO, the social media intelligence platform used by more than 500 brands. Measuring marketing performance across the China border is work this team has done for years.

Which one fits how you work

Brands selling into China and APAC

This is the case Emergine was built for. Buyers in Shanghai and Shenzhen research in Chinese on Doubao and Yuanbao, and the answers they get are assembled from Chinese social video, Chinese industry media and Chinese community forums. A tool that only watches US-based engines cannot report on any of it. Emergine covers both halves in one place, with the source mix read separately for each engine so you know which kind of content earns the citation.

Global brands with multi-market exposure

Running one tool for US-based engines and a second for China means two subscriptions, two methodologies and two sets of numbers that cannot be added together. Emergine gives you one Visibility Index across every engine and every market, so a regional gap shows up in the same view as the global trend.

Agencies

Emergine runs multi-brand dashboards, white-label reporting with your own branding, channel pricing and dedicated partner support. The China coverage turns AI visibility into a service line instead of a resold dashboard. Partner terms include rebates, co-marketing, API integration and team training.

Lean in-house marketing teams

Prompt Discovery means you do not need to arrive with a research plan. Site Assessment tells you what to change on your own pages, with the evidence attached. Action Tasks turn those findings into assigned work with an owner and a due date.

Pricing

Both platforms start at $29 a month, and the two entry plans are built for different jobs. Otterly Lite is a small monitoring subscription: 15 prompts, four US-based engines, one workspace and three recommendations a week, with API access, MCP access and Agent Analytics excluded. Emergine Lite is a first look at where your brand lands in AI answers, with 15 prompts, one platform of your choice from the full ten, one project and ten competitors tracked.

Plan detail Otterly Emergine
Free trial 7 days, no credit card required 7 days, no credit card required
Entry plan Lite, $29/mo Lite, $29/mo
Prompts 15 15
Competitors tracked Configured list, suggested at setup 10, plus every brand found in the answer set
Chinese engines available None at any price Six
Mid tiers Standard $189/mo, Premium $489/mo Scoped with your team
Add-on charges Gemini, Google AI Mode and Claude priced separately No engine add-on fees
Enterprise Custom, stated from $1,000/mo Custom: engines, prompts, projects, competitors, users, API, MCP and SSO

Above Lite, Emergine is configured rather than tiered. You tell us which engines, markets and languages matter, how many brands and prompts you need, and who has to see the reports. We size the plan to that, which is why the next step is a conversation with our team.

Common questions

Does Otterly track DeepSeek, Doubao, Yuanbao or Qwen?

No. As of 1 September 2026, no Otterly page, help centre article or changelog entry mentions any Chinese AI engine. Otterly's seven engines are ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot and Claude.

Which engines does Emergine track?

Ten: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, DeepSeek, Doubao, Yuanbao, Qwen, Baidu ERNIE and Kimi. Microsoft Copilot and Naver AI are next.

I'm already using Otterly. What does switching involve?

Bring your existing prompts across and reuse the wording, then add the Chinese-language prompts your buyers actually type, which Prompt Discovery will suggest for your category. Add your brand, domain and name variations, and load the competitors you already know. Historical data does not transfer between tools, so trend lines begin when tracking begins.

Can I try Emergine before committing?

Yes. The trial runs seven days on your own brand and your own prompts, with no credit card required to start. If you want us to set up a project for your category and walk you through the results first, book a demo.

Why does it matter which brands a tool tracks?

Because the engines do not answer with your competitor list. They answer with whoever they consider relevant that week, which in cross-border categories regularly includes suppliers, platforms and regional brands nobody thought to configure. Emergine reports the full answer set alongside your tracked brands.

Should I run both tools?

Only if Perplexity or Claude are critical to your business. Otherwise Emergine covers the US-based engines that matter plus six Chinese engines Otterly does not offer at any price, which is one subscription instead of two.
